Join us at Grow to explore how this Plymouth building can be used to communicate the issues of climate change and sustainability.
Climate Change, Low / Net Zero Carbon, Sustainability…these terms have all entered our everyday speech and narratives about our future. Yet research shows there is a lack of awareness and misunderstandings held by the general population on these issues, and how to actually act on these issues in relation to one’s own home or place of work.
We’re running this project – jointly with the University of Plymouth – to explore how our centrally-located building at Drake Circus in Plymouth can be used to communicate issues of climate change, low / net zero carbon, and sustainability – in a way that are more accessible and people-centred.
Join us at any one of three free workshops (the format will be the same at each one) with others from community-based organisations, built environment professionals, local government representatives and others concerned about the environment and our futures.

Devon Net Zero Innovation Fund
These workshops are made possible by the Devon Net Zero Innovation Fund which will help us develop a new sustainable service linking academics with the community to support education around key net zero issues. The project will be overseen by Professor Robert Brown of the University of Plymouth whose research includes a focus on issues of sociocultural identity, urbanism and community regeneration.
We’re bringing our experience of running a similar organisation, Grow Hackney, which was established in 2014 and has become a cultural anchor in the East London area, drawing people together to consider environmental, social and cultural events. We see similar opportunities to develop a just and sustainable community ethos in Plymouth.
We hope to utilise their relationship with neighbouring University of Plymouth to involve students in the design of the cultural space as well as in events held here.
